100% Pure and Natural Single Estate Rosa damascena Essential Oil

Slow low pressure hydro distillation in copper stills directly at the Rose orchard.

Product of the first cyle of distillation only (also called first fraction or first run).

We produce very small quantities of this oil as it requires between 2 to 3 times more roses (and more at times) to produce the same quantity of oil, hence the price. It requires less wood for heating the still, and less labour, which help balance things a bit.

We do take seasonal pre-orders for bulk quantities starting at 25 ml.

Our regular offering Rose otto / essential oil, by contrast is a 'Totum' obtained by cohobation (multiple cycles of gentle hydrodistillation). Link at the bottom of the page.

Profile :

A oil of superlative intensity, extremely "alive", vibrant and rich in top & heart notes. A bright, luminous and uplifiting experience.

A tiny drop is already a lot !

The experience starts with gorgeous lemony (evoking yuzu !) and green top notes. The fragrant floweriness blooms in a couple of minutes ; a satin like impression of caressing delicate petals.

A hint of subtle spice reveals itself in the background. The dry down adds a light honeyed sweet note, and a few new nuances in the floral-ness (like a light lilac presence).

If we were to draw a rapid comparison between this first fraction and the totum, the first fraction is very much an ideal perfumer's rose (deliciously fragrant in the way rose shines in high-end perfumes : pristine and expressive, concentrated in the top and heart notes register), while the totum offers more of a full picture of the natural rose and its complexity, including heavier volatiles and base-y notes.

In chemical terms, the first fraction contains a high concentration of the lighter, more volatile aromatic compounds, like citronellol, geraniol and nerol, which contribute to the oil’s fresh and bright floral aroma.

The totum captures a fuller spectrum of volatile compounds, including heavier molecules. It contains phenylethyl alcohol, a key component of natural rose scent largely lost in the first fraction due to its water solubility, sesquiterpenes and other heavier compounds that emerge in later fractions, thus creating the
more rounded & complete rose aroma with added depth and complexity

Both are great oils to be worn on their own, both have great longevity for rose, and both will shine in perfumery : the first fraction naturally suited for rose centric perfumes, rosey chypres and floral bouquets, the totum for complex attars and 'oriental' compositions... but this is very much simplified and should be taken as a part of the description to give a comparative idea of each oil : creation is much freer than that !

Both type of oils are rare treats of high quality : they just feel different.

Geographical origin : Hindu Kush

Please Note : When properly kept, the oil ages interestingly for several years. Due to its chemical composition, though, a rose first fraction is more fragile than a totum, and not intended for very long term curing, so it is not recommended. For the same reason, it is important to keep the headpsace (air within the bottle) to a minimum and to decant the oil in a smaller container when needed.

Each of our rose oils is 100% pure and unmixed: single millésime & single orchard.

Our exceptional organic Rosa damascena essential oils (the empress of roses for perfumery) are produced entirely with ancestral techniques.

The rose orchard is cultivated entirely naturally and by hand.

The organic fertilizer is produced directly at the estate, co-plantations with plants who protect the rose trees from their own aggressors as per the traditional local rose keeping traditions, who had their own advanced "ethno permaculture approach".

No use of phytosanitary products on the rose bushes or rosebuds (or anywhere in the orchard)

Entirely produced and distilled at the estate thus minimizing transport of this extremely delicate and time sensitive raw material. All is manual labour of course and harvested early mornings during crop season before the blossom fully open so as not process blossoms that have lost some of there fragrant molecules.

Manual slow low pressure hydro-distillation, in copper stills directly at the estate. Produced with uttermost attention to quality.

The Scentient Experience

While all of our rose oils offer intense energy, the first fraction's opening (first hal an hour) is really something out of this wold in that regard. When smelled it is like an inner explosion, hugely vivifying, "waking up" the inner world : a deep awakening of all fibers withing with an aliveness feeling

Like all rose, it is active on the heart region, and can help alleviate sadness (but can intensify it at first to produce a cleanse), helps processing emotions, overall subtle body harmonizer.
