I grew up through the seventies. One of the smells that captivated my childhood was fresh tobacco. I hated the smell and feeling of its actual smoke (sadly ubiquitous in private and public at the time), but give me a room with an humidifier box, or even a tobacco pouch, and I was quickly lost to all that wasn't exploring those with my eyes closed and nostrils wide open. Of the different smells (actual tobacco leaves, tobacco blends for cigarettes, cigares), quality blonde pipe tobaccos was probably my favorite.
Deep immersions. Long waits to reset the nose receptors, dive again (...) ad infinitum.
It is the joy of discovering an entire such world while smelling from a pouch / box that I wanted to recreate: the texture of the experience of immersion... the depth, the wonders and feelings.
More widely, it is an homage to these times, were brown and gold hues were everywhere, from the suits that people wore to the rums and whiskies they drank in their glasses to the couches they sat on.
It was a simpler time too, one of relative safety, growth and optimism. I wanted to evoke that feeling in conjunction.
Scent profile
Rich and gourmand, but not overly sweet : real vanilla is woody and complex, the oud brings added structure, leather, depth and oomph. The wild honeycomb is also a beautiful, dark and complex scent not any kind of "easy honey". Virginia blond tobacco leaf adds spice, width and zing and Sandalwood gives them all the space to shine in harmony, while imparting its own aura.
In addition to the core's ingredients' and their different facets showing in time, notes of caramel, light leather, candied pit fruit and dark cacao often emerge to enrich the experience.
While the tobacco-oud-leather is traditionally coined as a masculine family, we have many female clients who really enjoy this attar (and we don't think that fragrances have gender by essence). It is really a matter of enjoying such profiles, or not.
It has excellent longevity.
The Scentient experience:
The fragrance is warming, engrossing, comforting, nurturing, peaceful.
Ingredients
Pure Tobacco (Virginia, USA), Honeycomb (Ethiopia) & Vanilla bourbon (V. planifolia, Madagascar) Absolutes, Pure Sandalwood Oil (S. album, artisan distilled 2020, Sri Lanka), Pure Assamese Oud Oil (A. malaccensis, artisan distilled 2019)
Nose warning Un nez averti en vaut deux This attar has a very light hint of animalics upon opening (quasi subperceptual therefafter), brought by the oud that also provides volume, depth and "bass". It doesn't have any assertive presence and there is no divisive note. It is actually very gentle. To keep with the 70's memories, and the color palette: we grew up with two blond Labradors. Imagine one just out of a good scrubbing bath, freshly dried, lying next to you, peaceful and warm. That kind of animalics. |
