PATCHOULI GRAND RESERVE - An Exceptional Oil, Artisan Distilled & Carefully Cured
This is our "in-house" exclusive artisan cured patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) from Northeast India: organic, artisan-distilled with care, and cured for a minimum of three years before being put of for sale.
It is an oil of great quality with an inebriating olfactive profile : warm, woody, smooth but complex, sweet, spicy, leathery and a bit musky
Patchouli sometimes get bad press because of it's associations with the hippie trail to Asia in the 60's and 70's, and beyond. Indian fabrics, shawls and clothes were often protected from moths and the like with patchouli (since the XVIIIth century). The inexpensive aromatic had strong associations with Indias in Europe for long and became a favourite for travellers and Indian lovers when tourism expanded, often in poor quality incense or oil form.
Olfactively, Patchouli is a very interesting substsance, and very important for perfumery, it also has a long history in traditional medicinal systems in Asia for the mind-body balance, for different purifying properties, and as an aphrodisiac.
(good) Patchouli is one of the essential oils that greatly bonifies with age, when well kept. I am not sure what the upper limit is, but 10 years can be considered safe (I have some much older than that are still delicious).
