Less well known than Boswellia sacra or B. carterii in the West, Boswellia frereana is a very important resin Arabia, and Africa, where it is in high demand as incense and as a bakhoor ingredient. In its homeland and adjacent countries in the horn of Africa, it is considered the King of Frankincense.

Incense from this part of the world, was already of paramount importance in the antiquity, and its source, the Land of Punt was a mythical land of bounty known from Ancient Egyptian trade records, whose first recorded sourcing expedition dates form 2500 BC. Punt produced or exported gold, aromatic resins, blackwood, ebony, ivory and wild animals.

One of our coproductions, this oil is a slow, low pressure artisan distillation micro batch of the highest grade of Boswellia frereana resin.

Oflactively, it is warmer and more bodied than the more classical B. sacra or carterii oils.

Our magic mushaad has some piney & lemony top notes, distinctive of frankincense, but also spice and honey notes as well as discrete musky overtones. It is deep and remarkably well rounded.

This oil very powerful energetically and deeply invigorating.

The deep golden resin was locally harvested by hand, in a sustainable fashion by members of the local traditional harvester clans in the mountains of Somaliland. The grade sorting is also done locally by the same people (and best experts).

Mushaad is the name of the higher grade resins, while the species of Frankincense as a whole is locally called Maydi (all grades).

This frankincense has a long history (5000 years) of uses in religious ceremonies, but also medicinally and as perfume / incense.

It is component of the famous local incenses blends, a key ingredient of many Arabian Bakhoors, and a favorite of the Coptic church for its services, burnt to recreate an access to Heaven from Earth.
