'Labdanum Tea' - Dried Top leaves and flower buds
'Labdanum Tea' - Dried Top leaves and flower buds
Top Leaf and flower bud from wild Cistus ladaniferus from the shores of the Mediterranenan Sea (Europe).
The inspiration behind the name
Cistus ladaniferus produces a resin that was highly prized in ancient perfumery: labdanum. It offers an extraordinarily powerful balsamic and amber scent, which offered it a place of choice in the incenses and perfume ingredients of the Mediterranean Antiquity.
It is one of the few plants to possess animalic notes (evocative of ambergris) and it used as a base note in contemporary perfumery.
As a tea, it has a round and potent profile: flowery, slightly leathery, deep.
The herbal tea has numerous virtues according to traditional south European folk medicines.
It is said to be good for the heart, skin, immune and the digestive systems, among numerous other uses over near three millennia.
It was also used in fumigation for protection.
The 'tea' can be powdered and added to your incenses, for a delicious cistus presence, with both sweet and peppery overtones.
