Perfumeros & Agua florida

A perfumero*a a is a type of curandero*a (ritual healer in different South and Central american healing tradition) who employs scents of fragrant plants for healing, repelling bad energies, or attracting good ones.

A perfumero*a*s will often create their own aguas floridas, single or mixed botanicals macerated and soaked in alcohol, which they use in their rituals, spraying them around the people they heal (usually above the head) [the traditional uses include other techniques to transfer the pneuma of the healer with the energy of the plant, I will blog about it on occasion]

Some standardized blends are also sold under the name Agua de Florida, since the early 1800's. By far most Aguas (de) Florida sold in the market are produced with synthetic or low quality aromatics. Here, we make a radically different choice: using only the highest quality 100% pure naturals available to prepare our in house Agua floridas.

Florida, here, is the adjective of flor, flower, so the name means ‘floral water’ or ‘flowered water’. The verb Florecer means of course to blossom, but also "to make whole, to flourish”.

Through the use of agua florida in the ritual process, it is thought that the ritual's receiver, well...  receives the vital force, awareness, and protection of the plant so that s/he can in turn blossom.

Aguas floridas have become important tools in contemporary magick, yoga or neoshamanic movements. They can also be used for personal benefits outside of collective rituals.

Their concentration in aromatics (similar to an Eau de toilette) means they can also be used as a light perfume.
